A sixth measles case in Maricopa County has triggered new exposure alerts in the East Valley. County health officials report that the latest infection is linked to previously identified local transmission and may have exposed people at multiple public locations in Mesa and Queen Creek.
Health authorities state that individuals who visited the listed sites during specific time windows could have been exposed to the measles virus, which spreads through respiratory droplets and can remain suspended in air. They are urging residents who may have been present to check their vaccination records, particularly for the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and to watch for fever, cough and rash consistent with clinical measles.
The county health department is conducting contact tracing to identify close contacts and assess risk, with isolation guidance for anyone lacking documented immunity. Officials emphasize that high community coverage with the MMR vaccine, which relies on both humoral immunity and herd immunity thresholds, remains the primary barrier to wider transmission as they monitor additional possible cases linked to the East Valley exposure sites.
